Mizoram has suffered financial losses to the tune of Rs 634.35 crore due to different disasters in the state between 2021 and 2025.
This was revealed at a meeting of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) chaired by Chief Minister Lalduhoma and attended by Rita Massal, Member of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in Aizawl on Thursday.
The meeting reviewed the Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) Report covering disaster-related losses and damages in Mizoram during the period 2021-2025.
According to the report, the major disasters affecting the state included Cyclone Remal, African Swine Fever (ASF), heavy rainfall and landslides, and rodent outbreak in certain areas of Mizoram in 2025.
The report estimated the total damages incurred during the period at Rs. 656.76 crore, and the economic loss was assessed at Rs. 634.35 crore. The total requirement for recovery and reconstruction has been estimated at Rs. 879.82 crore.
The meeting discussed and reviewed the Mizoram State Disaster Management Plan 2026 as well as the Disaster Management Plans prepared by all eleven districts of the state.
Measures to strengthen Project Management Units (PMUs) set up by the Government of Mizoram for the National Landslide Risk Mitigation Project, National Earthquake Risk Mitigation Project, and the Mitigation Scheme for Forest Fire Risk Management were discussed.
The meeting also deliberated the continued implementation of the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS).
In addition, various disaster management-related requirements and concerns of Mizoram were presented to the NDMA Member.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister K. Sapdanga, PWD Minister Vanlalhlana, Health Minister Lalrinpuii, Power and Electricity Minister F. Rodingliana, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister B. Lalchhanzova, Disaster Management & Rehabilitation Minister Prof. Lalnilawma, along with senior government officials.
