Mizoram Chief Minister and senior Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) leader Lalduhoma has categorically stated that the party has not joined the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), dismissing reports suggesting any formal alignment with the ruling coalition at the Centre.

Addressing a press conference in Aizawl, Lalduhoma clarified that while the ZPM maintains cordial and constructive relations with the Central government, it has no plans to become a formal constituent of the NDA. He added that such a decision has neither been discussed nor placed before the party’s Political Affairs Committee or other decision-making bodies.

The Chief Minister, who recently stepped down as ZPM president, said the party remains committed to its identity as a regional force with a national outlook. He noted that although Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have on several occasions invited the ZPM to join the NDA, the party has consistently preferred to maintain cooperation without formal alliance.

Lalduhoma said Mizoram has historically benefited when regional parties maintained working relationships with ruling parties at the Centre, ensuring developmental support for the state. He also referred to former Chief Minister Brig. T. Sailo’s vision of a “regional party with a national outlook,” which the ZPM continues to uphold.

On the ZPM’s recent alliance with the BJP in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC), the Chief Minister clarified that it was a local political arrangement based on necessity rather than ideology. The two parties recently formed the Chakma Democratic Alliance Legislature Party to facilitate governance in the council, which has been under Governor’s Rule since January due to political instability.
