The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting mourned the untimely demise of three members of the Information and Broadcasting fraternity who lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Mizoram on Thursday. The vehicle carrying the officials fell into a gorge while they were on official duty.
The deceased are Dr. Engam Pame, IIS, Additional Director General, Press Information Bureau and Central Bureau of Communication, Imphal; Nampibou Marinmai, IIS, Director (News), Doordarshan Kendra and All India Radio, Aizawl; and H. Lianvela, MTS, Central Bureau of Communication, Field Office, Aizawl.
The tragic loss of three colleagues has deeply saddened the Ministry. Their untimely demise is a profound loss to their respective organisations and to the larger family of officials and professionals engaged in public communication and information dissemination across the country.
Dr. Engam Pame, 58, joined the Indian Information Service in 1994 after completing his MA in International Relations from the School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. During his more than three decades of service, he served in various capacities in Delhi, Imphal, Pune and Shillong, contributing to government communication, media coordination and public outreach.
As Additional Director General, PIB Imphal, Dr. Pame played an important role in strengthening communication and coordination with media organisations and government departments across the Northeast.
Nampibou Marinmai was an Indian Information Service officer and was serving as Director (News), Doordarshan Kendra and All India Radio, Aizawl. He was also Chairman of the Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC). He had earlier served as Public Relations Officer with the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, where he was associated with defence-related public relations, media reporting and communication.
Through his long association with news and public broadcasting, Nampi made valuable contributions to public communication and information dissemination.
H. Lianvela, MTS, CBC Field Office Aizawl, had joined government service in 1998. He was 52 and is survived by his wife, daughter and grandson.
Gojendra Dey, Driver, CBC, Field Office, Aizawl, also sustained injuries in the accident and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. He is conscious and under medical care.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting stands with the bereaved families, colleagues and friends of the three officials in this hour of profound grief, stated a press release.
