North Eastern Council (NEC) secretary Satinder Kumar Bhalla visited Champhai district on Wednesday and inspected development projects funded by the council.
The NEC Secretary inspected the ongoing work at the Zomi Cultural Centre, which was constructed with NEC funding. He stated that the remaining work should be completed as quickly as possible so that the public can make full use of the facility soon.
The centre has been planned to be available for hire at an affordable rate for the people of Champhai. A cafeteria is also being constructed within the complex to provide visitors with a suitable place to relax and socialise, along with a quarter for the caretaker. The auditorium will have a seating capacity of around 200 people and will be equipped with a sound system and chairs. The basement is also intended to house an exhibition of various artefacts.
Later, the NEC Secretary visited the Hnahsin Kut celebration venue and interacted with the event organisers. He praised their commendable efforts and discussed ways to further improve the festival and attract a larger number of visitors, not only from within the state but also from outside.
The NEC Secretary was accompanied by Horticulture Secretary Maria CT Zuali, Senior Research Officer Lalnunsiami, and SDO Sadar Dr. Peter Malsawmtluanga.
