Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh, alongside key state ministers and senior officials, commemorated the 157th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Friday by paying solemn floral tributes to the Father of the Nation at his statue located within the government secretariat. The commemorative ceremony witnessed the gracious presence of several prominent cabinet members, including Home Minister K Sapdanga, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister C Lalsawivunga, Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister Lalthansanga, School Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana, Information and Public Relations Minister B Lalchhanzova, and Rural Development and Administration Minister Lalnilawma. Joining the leadership to honor Gandhi’s enduring legacy were Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena, Director General of Police Sharad Agarwal, and numerous other high-ranking government officials who gathered to reflect upon the values of peace, truth, and community service espoused by the national leader. Following the formal tribute, the governor and the attending dignitaries transitioned from remembrance to action by actively participating in a dedicated cleanliness drive under the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva campaign. Armed with brooms, the governor and officials swept the secretariat premises to visibly champion and uphold Mahatma Gandhi’s profound emphasis on personal hygiene, environmental sanitation, and collective civic responsibility. This hands-on involvement served to inspire the local community and reinforce the state government’s ongoing commitment to cleanliness initiatives, transforming a day of historical remembrance into a practical demonstration of public service, duty, and community hygiene across Mizoram.
