SBI Funds Management Ltd (SBIFML), in partnership with Doctors For You (DFY), has supported the establishment of Mizoram’s first Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) Department and the upgradation of the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU) at Zoram Medical College & Hospital (ZMCH), strengthening the state’s specialised healthcare infrastructure.
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma inaugurated the CTVS unit and upgraded ICCU at ZMCH in Aizawl on October 14. The department recorded 37 cases between June and September 2026, including nine in June, five in July, 13 in August and 10 in September, indicating utilisation of the specialised service.
ZMCH, a key tertiary-care institution offering round-the-clock services, has 470 general beds and 38 ICU beds, along with major and minor operation theatres and casualty facilities. The initiative aims to improve access to advanced cardiac treatment for patients in Mizoram and neighbouring regions, particularly economically weaker families who may otherwise travel outside the state for care.
In Aizawl, the development could strengthen the local healthcare ecosystem by retaining more specialised treatment within Mizoram, reducing patients’ travel-related costs and supporting demand for associated medical services.
Debasish Mishra, managing director and CEO of SBI Funds Management Ltd, said the organisation remained committed to expanding access to essential healthcare and making advanced treatment available closer to underserved communities. The partnership is intended to support sustainable healthcare capacity-building during FY 2026–27 and beyond.
