Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has praised the longstanding bond between the Gorkha and Mizo communities while attending the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Mizoram Gorkha Youth Association (MGYA) at Dawrpui Multipurpose Hall. Describing MGYA as an important organisation for the welfare and development of Gorkha youth, Lalduhoma recalled the community’s solidarity with Mizoram during the difficult period of 1966 and highlighted its contributions to public life and governance. He assured the Gorkha community of the state government’s continued support and urged members to live peacefully and confidently while contributing to Mizoram’s progress. Founded by Gorkha youths at Khatla Veng on August 18, 1976, MGYA has grown into an organisation with 17 branches across the state, serving a community estimated at around 8,000 people. The celebration also highlighted the history and settlement of the Gorkha community in Mizoram. During the event, Lalduhoma felicitated Agastya Thapa, the first cadet from Chhingchhip Sainik School to qualify for the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination. The Golden Jubilee served as a celebration of MGYA’s five decades of service while reaffirming the enduring friendship, shared history and peaceful coexistence between the Gorkha and Mizo communities.
