Mizoram’s final electoral rolls have recorded significant changes following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), with 78,442 names deleted and 39,243 new electors added, taking the state’s total electorate to around 8.35 lakh. State Chief Electoral Officer Garima Gupta said the final roll includes around 4 lakh male and 4.32 lakh female voters, along with the state’s first third-gender elector. The SIR exercise began across all districts on May 20, when enumeration forms were provided to all 8.75 lakh registered electors. Of these, 8,28,906 forms were collected, while 46,162 remained uncollected and the corresponding names were deleted. During the claims and objections period, another 32,280 names were removed and 39,243 voters were added, resulting in a net increase of 6,963 electors, or 0.84 per cent, compared with the draft rolls published on July 4. Aizawl district has the highest number of voters at around 2.78 lakh, followed by Lunglei with 97,172 and Lawngtlai with 90,715, while Hnahthial has the lowest with 15,522 electors. Among Assembly constituencies, Tuichawng has the highest electorate at 37,236, while West Tuipui has the lowest at 14,667. Aizawl North-I recorded the largest increase, gaining 1,394 electors, whereas West Tuipui saw the biggest decline, losing 1,800 voters from its draft-roll strength. Gupta said the three-month SIR exercise was among the smoothest in the country and credited political parties, civil society groups, churches, community leaders and the media for their cooperation. The final electoral roll was published on Monday after the originally scheduled date of September 6 fell on a Sunday.
