This week, the Assam Rifles successfully conducted two anti-drug operations in Mizoram based on accurate intelligence, which resulted in the capture of three individuals and the seizure of drugs valued at over Rs 46 crore. When a squad from the Assam Rifles searched the Melbuk, Zokhawthar area close to the Indo-Myanmar border on July 26, they found 9.381 kg of methamphetamine pills and 1.041 kg of Heroin No. 4. The international market values the confiscated contraband at about Rs 40.05 crore.

The substances have been turned over to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for additional examination, according to authorities. Two days prior, on July 24, 1.97 kg of methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs 6.6 crore were seized during another targeted operation in Tuikhuahtlang, Aizawl. A collaborative team from the Narcotics Department, Aizawl Police, and Assam Rifles established a vehicle check station in response to intelligence information. The drugs were discovered hidden inside their car, and three people were taken into custody.

According to officials, timely intelligence collection and concerted efforts led to both operations. Legal actions are being taken, and the three arrested people have been turned over to the Aizawl Excise and Narcotics Department. Since the area is increasingly being exploited as a transit route for drugs being smuggled across the border, security services have increased their counter-narcotics activities in the area.
