Tension prevailed in Taphou village in Manipur’s Senapati district after two houses, reportedly belonging to members of the Naga and Kuki communities, were allegedly set ablaze by armed miscreants in the early hours of Monday.
According to sources, the incident took place at around 4.30 am, when armed individuals allegedly targeted the two houses and set them on fire.
One of the houses reportedly belonged to a Kuki family, while the other belonged to a Naga family. The incident has raised concerns over fresh tension between the two communities in the area.
Security personnel were deployed in Taphou and surrounding areas following the incident, and security arrangements were strengthened to prevent any further escalation.
The area has remained sensitive amid continuing ethnic tensions in Manipur, and the burning of houses belonging to members of the two communities has added to concerns among local residents.
