The Mizoram Resource Mobilisation Committee (MRMC) has strongly advocated the establishment of a separate High Court for the state, arguing that it would fulfil key provisions of the Mizoram Peace Accord and improve access to justice for citizens.
The recommendation was made during an MRMC meeting chaired by Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Tuesday. The meeting reviewed a series of administrative and fiscal reform measures aimed at strengthening governance, reducing expenditure and enhancing resource mobilisation across the state.
Mizoram currently does not have a separate High Court. The state alls under the jurisdiction of the Gauhati High Court and judicial administration in the state operates through the Gauhati High Court’s Aizawl Bench.
The MRMC meeting was attended Vice Chairman Haukhuma Hauzel, Ministers Lalrinpuii, and F. Rodingliana along with other members of the Committee.
The MRMC Sub-Committee on Administrative Reforms had already recommended the creation of a separate High Court. The committee noted that the establishment of a separate High Court would be a significant step towards the full implementation of the provisions of the 1986 Mizoram Peace Accord. It was noted that adequate land is available for the purpose, and the move would not only reduce government expenditure in the long run but also enable the people of Mizoram to access justice more conveniently.
