Mizoram observed ‘No Official Vehicle Day’ on Wednesday in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to conserve fuel among other austerity measures. In accordance with a government notification issued recently, the initiative kicked off with government employees commuting to their respective offices using public transportation, relying on city buses, line buses, and Mizoram State Transport (MST) buses. To facilitate a smooth commute for government staff, special transport schedules were arranged for the day. The fuel conservation drive comes as a direct response to the ongoing conflicts in West Asia, which have severely impacted the import and supply of fuel. The state government has announced that ‘No Official Vehicle Day’ will continue to be observed every Wednesday until further notice.
