Mizoram Governor, General Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd), graced the Youth Festival (Univoyage) 2026, jointly organised by ICFAI University Mizoram and the Tourism Department, on the ICFAI University campus in Aizawl on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing the festival as a valuable platform for motivating young people and providing meaningful learning opportunities. He stressed that such events would bring significant benefits to students and help shape their future. Highlighting the importance of youth as the future of the nation, he underscored the need to invest in their development. He also underlined the importance of skills development and upskilling for job creation and employability, remarking that maximum learning often takes place through direct interaction with people, making such festivals highly impactful.
Speaking on the potential of Mizoram’s tourism sector, the Governor noted that the state already possesses key advantages such as a pleasant climate, scenic landscapes and a clean environment. He stated that with improved facilities and a more favorable environment for visitors, Mizoram could attract a larger number of tourists. He also emphasised the importance of promoting eco-friendly tourism and maintaining harmony with nature. Encouraging the youth to actively participate and learn with enthusiasm, he expressed hope that the youth festival would yield positive and meaningful outcomes for both Mizoram and its people.
The programme was chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Ginlianlal Buhril, Vice-Chancellor of ICFAI University Mizoram, who delivered the welcome address. Speeches were also delivered by Irene Zohlimpuli Chongthu, Additional Secretary, Tourism Department, Government of Mizoram; Padma Shri Patricia Mukhim, Editor of The Shillong Times and Dr. Theyiesinuo Keditsu from Kohima, Nagaland. The event featured a panel discussion and an interactive session. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. David Lawmzuala, Registrar of ICFAI University Mizoram.
The Youth Festival (Univoyage) 2026 is a two-day event held under the theme “Exploring Diversity, Strengthening Bonds.”
