Amid continued infiltration and terrorist designs from across the border, a suspicious Pakistani drone was spotted in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army opened fire after the drone entered Indian airspace and hovered for some time near forward army posts.
According to officials, the incident occurred on Monday night near the Line of Control in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir. Army personnel detected the drone’s movement during routine border surveillance.
It is learnt that the drone was hovering above or near an Indian Army forward base for some time. Following this, soldiers fired at the drone.
Army sources claim that after the firing, the drone turned back towards Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Although the Army could not bring down the drone, officials said it was forced to leave Indian airspace.
Some reports mentioned that the drone was flying at an altitude of over 1,000 meters. Army personnel fired several rounds in an attempt to drive it away.
Following the incident, a massive search operation was launched in the area from Tuesday morning. Security forces began investigations to check whether the drone had dropped any weapons, explosives, or other materials. However, no suspicious items were recovered in the preliminary probe.
In the wake of this incident, security has been further tightened along the entire Line of Control. Security agencies have been maintaining special vigilance due to increased drone movement in border areas in recent times.
Authorities suspect that such drones could be used for surveillance along the border, intelligence gathering, or smuggling of illegal items. As a result, the entire incident is being treated with utmost seriousness and the investigation is being pursued.
