Mizoram Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Minister Lalnilawma has urged residents to remain vigilant and report emergencies promptly following heavy rainfall across the state that triggered landslides, road blockages, and severe infrastructure disruptions. With rainfall reaching up to 210 mm in parts of the state over 24 hours, the minister assured that zonal officers and village-level disaster management committees are deployed under deputy commissioners to coordinate swift relief efforts. Residents facing distress are encouraged to utilize the department’s smartphone-based ‘Khuarel App’ to report localized landslides and blocked routes directly to decision-makers. Lalnilawma, who also oversees the Public Health Engineering department, cautioned Aizawl residents about impending water supply shortages caused by a landslide at the Greater Aizawl Water Supply Scheme Phase III and construction-related impacts on the Setlak gravity supply, appealing for public cooperation while response teams work to restore normalcy.
