Vehicle movement was disrupted along NH-37( Imphal – Jiribam Road ) due to an ongoing indefinite economic blockade in all the National Highways of Manipur and in Inter -District Roads since Wednesday.
The indefinite economic blockade has been called by the United Naga Council(UNC) in a collective expression of grievances and a call for justice for the six Nagas who were brutally killed, mutilated and dismembered on May, 13. 2026
Protesters blocked the road by putting stones and boulders also burnt tyres at Noney Bridge point.
Stones were pelted at the loaded trucks amidst security escort.
All shops and business establishments were shut down on Thursday afternoon at Longmai Bazar, Noney owing to the agitation and confrontation with the security forces.
Loaded trucks were still stranded in Noney Bazar and Khumji till evening.
However, vehicles carrying emergency services have been exempted.
Meanwhile, security reinforcement has been deployed in all the vulnerable areas with strict vigil in strategic points/locations.
