The Union government has assured Mizoram of support for the establishment of an MSME technology centre in the state to strengthen skill development, entrepreneurship and industrial growth, an official statement said here on Friday.
The assurance came during a meeting between Mizoram’s Minister for Labour, Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Lalnghinglova Hmar and Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Jitan Ram Manjhi, in New Delhi.
The two leaders discussed the setting up of the technology centre, with Manjhi assuring that the Ministry of MSME would extend necessary support once the state government completes the required proposals and formalities, the statement said.
Emphasising the significance of the MSME sector in Mizoram, Hmar said most enterprises in the state fall under the MSME category and provide livelihoods to a large number of young people.
He added that Mizoram has one of the country’s highest proportions of working-age youth relative to its population, making it well-suited for greater investment in MSME development.
Hmar also said that several initiatives related to MSME development are included under the state’s flagship programme, Bana Kaih or handholding scheme.
The Union minister appreciated the Mizoram government’s initiatives for youth development and reiterated that the ministry remains committed to extending all possible assistance to the state for MSME growth, the statement said.
