Mizoram Information and Public Relations Minister B. Lalchhanzova has said the state had seen a remarkable 97 per cent surge in tourist arrivals, accelerated by the historic integration of Aizawl onto the national railway network via the Bairabi-Sairang railway line.
Speaking at an Inter-Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC) meeting organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), at the I&PR Conference Hall in Aizawl on Thursday, Lalchhanzova said, “Mizoram has a powerful story to share with the rest of the country. Our media units must proactively broadcast Aizawl’s reputation as a uniquely disciplined, honking-free ‘Silent City’ and promote our state as one of India’s safest destinations for women travelers. Central media channels like PIB, AIR, and DDK must drive this momentum further.”
The Minister further focused on key infrastructural updates earmarked for wider projection, including the ongoing transformation of Thenzawl into a world-class peace tourism hub through upgraded golf courses and a Rs 36-crore elevated ropeway project. He also commended the state’s sustainable tourism approaches, such as the ITDC-backed Tribal Homestay initiatives and collaboration with the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) to manage visitor engagement seamlessly.
He emphasized the crucial need for strong alignment between central and state government media wings to project Mizoram’s growth stories onto national and global platforms and urged media bodies to establish a cohesive narrative blueprint.
Addressing senior officials from the Press Information Bureau (PIB), All India Radio, Doordarshan Kendra (DDK), and the state I&PR department, Lalchhanzova pointed out that institutional synergy is mandatory to eliminate institutional silos. He noted that a policy’s real success depends heavily on public awareness and localized delivery at the village level.
During his address, the Minister underscored the importance of English broadcasting to give wider national circulation to Mizoram’s rapid infrastructure and development updates.
Nampibou Miranmai, Director of DDK (News) Mizoram and IMPCC Chairman, also spoke, stating that the IMPCC is an important platform for coordination between the media and various government departments. He expressed his belief that through the IMPCC, different media outlets can establish excellent coordination in disseminating news to the public. He wished the attendees a fruitful discussion.
Topics discussed in the meeting included increasing publications in English and Hindi alongside Mizo, creating more awareness about GST among the Mizo people, and disseminating more information regarding the harmful effects of substance abuse.
Officials from DDK, AIR, I&PR, SPMU, IOCL, MSME, National Tobacco Control Programme, CGST, FCI, and Census Operations attended the meeting. K. Vanlalsangi, Director of I&PR and Co-Chairperson of the IMPCC, delivered the welcome address. Joint Director Mina Zoliani Joute chaired the meeting and Dr. Rajeev Lourembam, Head of Office at PIB Aizawl, concluded the meeting with a vote of thanks.
