The Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER) would promote Tripura’s pineapple internationally through a project valued at Rs 132.62-crore. The queen pineapple type was named the state fruit by then-President Ram Nath Kovind in 2018, and the state administration suggested that the ministry look into international markets for it. Currently, 12,095 hectares of pineapple are grown in the Northeastern state, yielding more than 1,77,433 tonnes of fruit yearly.

Key officials had a virtual meeting with Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath and DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. “During the meeting, our minister emphasized the pineapple’s distinct flavor, taste, and nutritional value, which makes it extremely marketable worldwide,” said Phani Bhusan Jamatia, director of the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department. He noted that Tripura’s organically grown pineapples have a lot of promise in global markets due to the rising demand for wholesome fruit devoid of chemicals.

In order to increase exports, Tripura’s Union Minister, Jamatia Jamatia, has indicated interest in promoting the state’s pineapples, highlighting their year-round production and eye-catching packaging. He proposed using drones, artificial intelligence, and IT tools in pineapple farming to improve quality, maintenance, and surveillance, which would help growers get higher prices in global markets.
