Supreme Court (5)

The Supreme Court halted the removal of trees from 400 acres of property in Kancha Gachibowli, which is close to Hyderabad Central University. In an interim order, the state chief secretary was instructed by the supreme court to make sure that no tree cutting occurs until further directives. The Telangana High Court Registrar was also instructed by a bench of Justices B. R. Gavai and A. G. Masih to visit the location and provide a report by Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Following an oral mention of tree felling on the property by senior counsel K. Parmeshwar, the amicus curiae in forest issues, the bench issued the interim order.

Later in the day, after receiving the report from the Telangana High Court Registrar, another hearing is planned. The bench noted that extensive deforestation in the Kancha Gachibowli forest is depicted in the publications. Authorities have taken advantage of the extended weekend holidays to cut down trees, according to news sources. According to sources, the wooded area is home to eight different kinds of scheduled species. Tree cutting and other land-related activities were put on hold till Thursday by the Telangana High Court on Wednesday.

The court has directed the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) to stop work on a 400-acre government land allotted to HCU students and Vata Foundation. The petitioners argue that the land, which includes three lakes, rocks, and various wildlife species, needs to be protected. The court also noted that the petitioners argue that the government has been acting against Supreme Court guidelines, leading to a tense situation in the area. The court has adjourned the hearing to Thursday.
