Mizoram Rural Development and Administration Minister Prof. Lalnilawma on Tuesday visited the under-construction building for a tung processing centre at Saitual in his Tawi Assembly constituency, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of local farmers and artisans.The processing centre is being constructed through the Rural Development and Administration Department (RD&AD) at a cost of ₹10 lakh. The facility is expected to support tung growers by providing infrastructure for processing the produce, helping improve its value and market potential.During the visit, Prof. Lalnilawma said the Mizoram government attaches great importance to the welfare of people engaged in traditional occupations and is taking steps to strengthen their economic condition. He said he was making every effort to bring development to his constituency, with special emphasis on initiatives that would help farmers earn better returns from their produce.
Addressing local residents, the minister acknowledged that all development needs could not be met immediately but urged people not to lose hope. He assured them that he would continue to work for the overall development of the constituency. He also encouraged residents to remain dedicated and sincere in their work, expressing confidence that sustained efforts and God’s blessings would lead to steady progress.
Officials said the government had earlier distributed Pan Hnah planting material to tung cultivators to encourage cultivation in the area. Around 700 households are currently engaged in tung farming, with plantations covering nearly 1,816 acres across the region. Earlier in the day, the Saitual Village Council-III handed over a contribution of ₹20,000 to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund through Prof. Lalnilawma during his visit.
