Samsung Electronics has set an all-time presale record in South Korea after its latest foldable lineup—comprising the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8—logged 1.44 million preorders over a seven-day window. The blowout performance surpasses the company’s previous historic record of 1.38 million units set by the Galaxy Note 10 in 2019, while comfortably eclipsing both the 1.35 million preorders registered by the Galaxy S26 series in March and last year’s 1.04 million foldable orders. According to Samsung, domestic consumers placed preorders at a rate of roughly 140 units per minute during the week-long campaign.
The unprecedented demand was overwhelmingly anchored by the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, which accounted for approximately 70% of total preorders. Industry analysts attribute the surge to Samsung’s major design overhaul, which moved away from taller aspect ratios in favor of a wider 5.5-inch cover screen paired with a 7.6-inch main display, alongside new titanium-reinforced hinge technology that significantly reduces screen creasing. Demographically, online sales showed a sharp uptick among younger buyers and women, with female customers in their teens to 30s more than doubling compared to the previous generation.
The record-breaking presale milestone comes as a strategic boost for Samsung’s mobile division, providing momentum ahead of a broader global rollout across more than 100 countries beginning August 7. As foldable smartphones transition from early-adopter niche products into mainstream flagship alternatives, Samsung’s strong domestic reception reinforces its market leadership in premium mobile hardware.
