Marking the commencement of the new academic session, Presidency University Bengaluru welcomed Mizoram’s Health and Family Welfare Minister, Lalrinpuii, who visited the campus and interacted with students, urging them to pursue education with dedication, integrity and a strong sense of social responsibility.
The Minister was received by Dr. Nissar Ahmed, Chancellor, Dr. Nafeesa Ahmed, Vice Chairperson, Dr. S.J. Thiruvengadam, Vice Chancellor, and Dr. Vidya Shankar Shetty, Pro Vice Chancellor.
Addressing students from various disciplines, Ms. Lalrinpuii congratulated the freshers on beginning a new phase of their academic journey and encouraged senior students to lead by example. She said higher education is far more than earning a degree; it is a transformative period that shapes character, builds confidence and prepares young people to become responsible citizens.
The Minister advised students to lead balanced and responsible lives, staying away from the dangers of drugs, violence and other harmful influences. Highlighting the growing role of technology, she emphasised the need for digital awareness and urged students to ensure that technology serves as a tool for learning and growth rather than becoming a distraction.
Ms. Lalrinpuii, the first woman to hold a full Cabinet rank in the Mizoram Legislative Assembly and recipient of the India Icon Award 2026 for her contribution to healthcare in the state of Mizoram, shared experiences from her own journey and reminded students that success is achieved through perseverance, discipline and consistent hard work.
Noting that India is one of the world’s youngest nations, she called upon students to contribute not only to their personal aspirations but also to the progress of society and nation-building.
During her visit, the Minister toured the campus and appreciated the university’s diverse student community, particularly the inclusive and supportive environment created for students from the North-Eastern states to pursue higher education in Bengaluru.
