In a major push to strengthen the fisheries sector in Northeast India, the highly anticipated ‘Aquaex Northeast 2026’ expo is scheduled to take place on June 12 and 13 at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre in Guwahati. Jointly organized by the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) and Aquaex India Events, this specialized exhibition aims to revitalize the freshwater aquaculture ecosystem across the northeastern states and other high-potential inland fish-producing regions.

The announcement was made during a press conference held in Gangtok, chaired by K.K. Shrestha, Principal Director of the Department of Fisheries, Government of Sikkim. Speaking to the media, Deputy Director Nitesh Gurung emphasized that the event will serve as a premier platform bringing together fish farmers, entrepreneurs, hatchery operators, tech providers, and government agencies to accelerate productivity, profitability, and sustainability.

Aligned with the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), the expo will bridge the gap between government schemes and grassroots farmers. According to NFDB Governing Board Member Arup Sarmah, the event will unlock vital networking and investment opportunities for regional aquaculture entrepreneurs.

The exhibition will feature dedicated pavilions showcasing advanced technologies, including Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), biofloc systems, automated feeders, disease diagnostic tools, and modern cold-chain infrastructure. Stakeholders will also benefit from buyer-seller meets and specialized trade and finance solutions designed to uplift the entire fisheries value chain.

Local authorities, including Assistant Director Surendra Bhandari, have urged interested fish farmers and entrepreneurs to contact their respective district Department of Fisheries offices for registration and further information. Aquaex Northeast 2026 promises to be a transformative event, steering the region toward self-reliance in fish production.
