The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mizoram state unit on Monday launched a sharp attack against successive state governments for failing to deliver on their developmental promises, asserting that Mizoram urgently requires a capable administration to achieve complete self-reliance across critical sectors including food production, power generation, healthcare, and public infrastructure. Addressing a key political session organized at the party office in Aizawl, BJP state president and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) K. Beichhua strongly questioned the tangible achievements of past governing regimes since Mizoram was governed as a Union Territory. He specifically scrutinized successive flagship economic programs, citing the Congress-led New Economic Development Policy (NEDP) and New Land Use Policy (NLUP), the Mizo National Front’s (MNF) Socio-Economic Development Policy (SEDP), and the currently ruling Zoram People’s Movement’s (ZPM) Hand Holding Policy, alleging that none of these publicized schemes had successfully transformed the state into an economically self-sufficient entity. Beichhua emphasized that Mizoram desperately needs a performance-oriented government capable of translating promises into ground reality rather than relying continuously on hollow political slogans and election manifestos. Outlining the party’s governance vision, he identified self-sufficiency in local food production, reliable electricity generation, clean drinking water supply, upgraded healthcare infrastructure, well-maintained road networks, and easily accessible public services as the primary administrative priorities. He stressed that the state must upgrade its public medical infrastructure to a level where citizens no longer face the financial burden of traveling outside Mizoram for advanced healthcare treatments. Claiming that the BJP possesses the requisite governance expertise to fulfill these regional aspirations, Beichhua asserted that the party is fully equipped to govern a small state like Mizoram efficiently while fostering rapid economic growth. Furthermore, he strongly rejected long-standing political allegations labeling the BJP as anti-Christian or incompatible with regional religious values, pointing out that no Christian leader or member within the party had ever converted to Hinduism after joining. Concluding his address, the BJP state chief appealed directly to local churches, community leaders, and members of opposition parties like the Congress to impartially examine the BJP’s development-centric agenda and join forces to work collectively toward the holistic progress and self-reliance of Mizoram.
