Mizoram’s largest civil society organisation, the Young Mizo Association (YMA), has raised concerns over alleged discrepancies in the state’s draft electoral rolls prepared under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and demanded a thorough review to ensure that only genuine citizens are included in the voter list.

The Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) said it examined the draft electoral rolls published on July 4 and found what it described as “improbable” inconsistencies in the digitisation of Enumeration Forms (EFs) and voter mapping in some constituencies. The organisation stated that the draft rolls should be carefully reviewed by election authorities to maintain the credibility of the electoral process.

CYMA president R. Lalngheta said the organisation would submit a formal representation seeking a detailed examination of the alleged discrepancies. He urged Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) to conduct the claims and objections process with fairness and transparency.

The YMA also appealed to its local branches and partner organisations to actively participate in the verification process and requested political parties to avoid approaching the exercise with partisan interests.

Earlier, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) had also raised questions over voter increases in certain areas. The Election Department has maintained that there has been no abnormal rise in voter numbers. The ongoing SIR process continues amid calls for accuracy, transparency and public confidence in the electoral rolls.
