Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma held a meeting with a visiting delegation of BRICS Entrepreneurs Alliance (BEA) in Aizawl on Monday.
It was a follow-up of the meeting held on August 7 at Mizoram House, New Delhi, between Chief Minister Lalduhoma and Dr. Bhaskar Jyoti Sonowal, Global President and CEO of BEA.
The Chief Minister stated that carbon trading, ginger processing and tourism are the priority areas in which the Government of Mizoram wishes to take forward cooperation with BEA. He expressed appreciation to the BEA team for actively following up on the discussions and stated that the proposals submitted by them would be pursued as necessary.
During the meeting, various firms and companies associated with BEA made presentations on the opportunities for undertaking activities in Mizoram. Florata Bio Complex, Russia presented opportunities for utilising its bio-stimulant technology for crops in Mizoram. Maximize presented its proposals for promoting Mizoram and developing tourism, while Carbon Project Developer Jatin Kapur presented opportunities in the field of carbon credits.
Under carbon credits, discussions covered carbon-removal projects, Afforestation and Reforestation (ARR), Blue Carbon, BECCS and Biochar. The potential for creating livelihoods for rural communities and bringing substantial investment into Mizoram through carbon and private investment was also highlighted.
In the tourism sector, the BEA team suggested that Mizoram should not compete directly with established destinations such as Goa, Kerala and Kashmir, but should focus more strongly on developing itself as an experience-led destination, highlighting its unique natural and cultural attractions. High-Net-Worth Urbanites, corporate and technology professionals, and Gen Z travellers were identified as key target segments.
The meeting also heard presentations on opportunities offered by an Israeli company in areas including micro-drip irrigation, climate-controlled greenhouses, drone-enabled logistics and security solutions.
Discussions were also held on ginger processing and market development, including opportunities for taking Mizoram’s processed ginger products to the international market.
