Mizoram has emerged as one of India’s leading performers in the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination drive, currently securing the third position nationwide. Health Minister Lalrinpuii announced the achievement during the launch of the National Immunisation Day Pulse Polio programme in Aizawl. She expressed confidence that the state can achieve the top spot, noting that Mizoram’s manageable population of roughly 16 lakh allows the government to deliver highly effective healthcare services. Highlighting this success, the Lunglei district exceeded its campaign goals by achieving an impressive 107 percent coverage rate.

The Health Minister also emphasized the critical importance of sustaining robust immunization drives, even though India has been certified polio-free since 2014. Health and Family Welfare Additional Secretary Lalnunmawii Ralte echoed this caution, warning that continued vigilance is essential because polio cases are still detected in neighboring nations like Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. This year’s targeted Pulse Polio campaign covers all 11 districts of Mizoram, aiming to immunize over one lakh children under the age of five through 1,430 dedicated vaccination booths.

Furthermore, Lalrinpuii praised local parents for their enthusiastic participation and commended frontline healthcare workers for elevating the state’s medical standards. Their collective efforts have significantly improved key health indicators, including the Maternal Mortality Ratio and Infant Mortality Rate. These sustained accomplishments have earned Mizoram prestigious National Quality Assurance Standards certifications and official recognition among India’s highly rated “Eligible States.”
