The Government of Mizoram has launched an extensive awareness campaign across Aizawl district to combat the rising threat of drug and tobacco addiction and promote a healthier society. Led by the Directorate of Social Welfare in partnership with the Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP) General Headquarters, the initiative forms part of the Working Committee on Ruihhlo-Do and the Aizawl District Nasha Mukh Bharat Abhiyan. The campaign, which began on October 23, focused on educating the public about the dangers of drug and gutkha consumption, particularly among youth. Officials said the drive aimed to empower communities with knowledge, encourage early intervention, and reinforce collective responsibility in fighting substance abuse.

Over the course of a week, awareness programmes were conducted across several neighbourhoods, including Ramthar North, Dam Veng, Ramhlun North, Tlangnuam, Dawrpui Vengthar, Chanmari, and College Veng. The outreach campaign concluded on October 30 at Chawlhhmun, marking a dedicated effort to cover both urban and semi-urban areas of the district. Volunteers and representatives from MHIP played an active role by engaging local residents, families, and youth groups. They reiterated the need for vigilance, timely guidance, and strong community support to keep children and young adults away from harmful substances. Pamphlets and educational materials were distributed, and interactive discussions were held to encourage open dialogue on addiction prevention.

Speaking about the initiative, MHIP leaders emphasized that substance abuse continues to be one of the biggest challenges facing Mizoram, and addressing it requires sustained collaboration between the government, community bodies, and families. They urged citizens to remain alert and help create an environment where healthier choices are encouraged and addictive substances are rejected. The campaign aligns with Mizoram’s ongoing efforts to curb addiction and strengthen public health. Authorities noted that this was not a one-time effort but part of a long-term strategy to foster a drug-free society through awareness, counselling, and community engagement.
