Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his role in building consensus among BRICS member countries during the grouping’s 18th summit in New Delhi.
Reacting to the outcome of the summit, Mein said the agreement reached among the member states reflected India’s growing influence in international diplomacy and the confidence it enjoys among countries with different interests.
Mein said Modi’s leadership had helped bring together countries amid ongoing geopolitical challenges. He also described international recognition of India’s role at the summit as a matter of pride for Indians.
“A moment of immense pride for every Indian as leading newspapers across the world recognise the stellar leadership” of Modi in forging consensus among the BRICS nations, Mein said in a post on X.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the response from the international media reflected what he described as the “trust and respect” India commands globally.
The 18th BRICS Summit was held in New Delhi on September 12 and 13 under India’s chairship. Discussions at the summit focused on areas including resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability.
The meeting also marked 20 years of the BRICS grouping. The bloc currently has 10 member countries, bringing together major emerging economies from different regions.
Mein said India’s continued engagement with BRICS had strengthened the country’s role in discussions on global issues. He said the summit outcome showed India’s growing voice in efforts to promote greater cooperation and a more balanced international order.
His comments came after the New Delhi summit concluded with BRICS members reaching consensus on key issues discussed during India’s chairship. The outcome has been viewed by supporters of the government as a reflection of India’s expanding diplomatic engagement and its role in bringing countries with diverse positions to the negotiating table.
