A total of 1,570 vehicles have been registered on the Mizotaxi App as of September 11.
Of those vehicles, 397 are four-wheeler taxis, 1,149 two-wheeler taxis, and 24 autorickshaws.
Mizotaxi, a new mobile application for public transport services, was launched and became operational in Aizawl on July 1. It is designed to help people using taxis and auto-rickshaws verify and pay the correct fares approved by the government.
An official source said the Mizoram government is considering extending the registration window for taxi operators on the newly introduced app by another three months, as the state seeks to expand app-based taxi services and ease traffic congestion in Aizawl.
The proposal was discussed at a meeting of the Coordination Committee on Traffic Management, chaired by Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena on Friday.
The meeting reviewed the registration status and usage of taxis following the official launch of the Mizotaxi app, while deliberating on a proposal to extend the registration deadline.
Transport Department Secretary C.Lalruaia stated tha the total number of ride requests recorded through the app stands at 28,553, with 279 taxi drivers active online currently.
Discussions highlighted that the Mizotaxi app serves as an essential tool to ensure the implementation of official taxi rates fixed by the State Transport Authority, enhance passenger safety, and help alleviate severe traffic congestion and parking shortages within Aizawl city. Noting that previous registration extensions yielded a strong response and that the public is increasingly familiarizing themselves with the app, the committee deliberated on a proposal to open a further three-month registration window for interested operators.
The Mizotaxi App is a collaborative initiative developed by the Government of Mizoram and Digiride Technology Pvt. Ltd., in association with NIT Mizoram.
