Mizoram Governor General (Retd) Vijay Kumar Singh on Thursday released a book, ‘The Escape,’ authored by C. Zâma, a former member of the Mizo National Army (MNA).

The release function was held on Thursday morning at Lianchhiari Run, Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Aizawl.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh praised the author C. Zâma for documenting his knowledge and experiences in a well-crafted book.

He emphasised the importance of recording significant events in Mizo history in written form for the benefit of younger generations, noting that such historical writings will only grow more valuable with the passage of time.

Reflecting on Mizoram’s journey, the Governor observed that after enduring a prolonged period of unrest, the State is today peaceful, progressive and fully literate. Although progress may have come somewhat later than in other places, he said the dividends of peace have created a far better atmosphere for development.

He stressed the need to move beyond an insular mindset, urging people to interact with the wider world, step out of their comfort zones and bring back the best experiences and qualities to help shape the state’s development.

The programme was chaired by Prof. (Dr) Ginlianlal Buhril, Vice Chancellor of ICFAI University, Mizoram.

Those present also heard personal accounts from author C. Zâma, former Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia, and other former MNA members. Vanlalruata Ralte, owner of Book Cafe, presented a book preview.

Former State Home Minister Lalchamliana delivered the vote of thanks, bringing the function to a close.

The book, spanning 174 pages and priced at Rs 200, recounts various incidents and personal experiences from the Mizo struggle for independence between 1966 and 1986.
