
Mizoram Governor VK Singh reaffirmed the state government’s steadfast commitment to combating the growing drug use and trafficking danger. Singh highlighted the tremendous work done by law enforcement to lower drug-related crimes and cross-border smuggling in his remarks at Aizawl’s Republic Day celebration. He said that officials discovered almost 12 lakh kg of illegally imported areca nuts worth Rs 16.6 crore in 2024, along with enormous quantities of illegal drugs, guns, ammunition, and explosives. Last year, the Excise and Narcotics Department and the state police detained 4,568 persons for drug-related offenses.
Governor Singh asked civil society organizations, NGOs, and religious organizations to continue supporting efforts to address this issue and fight the drug problem. He also spoke about the continuous efforts to reach a settlement over the long-running boundary dispute with Assam. In his final remarks, he emphasized the government’s commitment to developing the tourism, sports, agricultural, and health sectors. On January 16, 2025, Gen. Vijay Kumar Singh (retd.), a former Union Minister and Army chief, took the oath of office as Mizoram’s 25th governor. At Raj Bhavan, Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi of the Gauhati High Court gave the oath. Chief Minister Lalduhoma, cabinet members, and other dignitaries were present for the occasion.
