In a major boost to digital governance and healthcare accessibility, the Mizoram government has officially launched an online medical referral system under the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme. Formally inaugurated by Health Minister Lalrinpuii in Aizawl, the new digital platform is designed to streamline the referral process for government employees who require specialized medical treatment outside the state.

Previously, patients faced significant bureaucratic hurdles and delays. Referral permissions required physical processing through multiple government offices, and Medical Referral Boards operated exclusively in the Aizawl and Lunglei districts. This created immense inconvenience, particularly for families living in rural and remote areas outside the capital. The newly developed portal completely digitizes this process, effectively eliminating paperwork delays and ensuring swift approvals.

During the launch, Health Minister Lalrinpuii emphasized the critical importance of efficiency, urging medical officers to ensure the system is utilized effectively, especially during emergency situations. She highlighted that over 46,000 families have already registered under the scheme’s online system, showcasing a strong public transition toward digital healthcare services.

The state-of-the-art portal was developed through a collaborative effort between the Directorate of Hospital and Medical Education and the Mizoram State e-Governance Society. By leveraging technology to decentralize administrative approvals, the Mizoram government aims to provide transparent, hassle-free, and timely healthcare support to its workforce, marking a significant milestone in the state’s healthcare infrastructure.
