Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma reviewed the state’s ongoing river management and development projects at a crucial meeting with Dr. Randir Singh, Chairman of the Brahmaputra Board, at the Chief Minister’s Office in Aizawl. The Chief Minister commended the Board’s work on sustainable river development and flood control, and he said the State Government is willing to align its policies and make the required changes to make it easier for people to get funds from the Central Government, including the flood bank zoning plan.

Lalduhoma underlined the importance of sustainable water resource management and the need for cooperation in developing watersheds, increasing water sources, building rainwater collection dams, and starting multipurpose irrigation projects. In order to safeguard lives and livelihoods throughout Mizoram, he emphasized the necessity of a robust and secure river system. In his explanation of the Brahmaputra Board’s activity since its establishment in 1982 under the Brahmaputra Board Act, 1980, Dr. Randir Singh focused on the board’s mission to promote the Brahmaputra and Barak river basins.

He outlined the main tasks of the Board, which include creating master plans, surveying river systems, putting drainage and anti-erosion plans into action, and encouraging interstate cooperation for efficient use of water resources. In addition, he mentioned that the Board’s regional office in Mizoram, which is presently housed in Zemabawk, is rented. He also mentioned intentions to expand important initiatives in the state in the upcoming months. Senior Board officials including Er. Lalrothanga, Secretary of the Irrigation & Water Resources Department, attended the meeting with Dr. Singh.
