In a major crackdown on cross-border drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Agartala Zonal Unit, alongside its Aizawl Field Office, seized 22.299 kg of methamphetamine tablets valued at approximately ₹17.84 crore during two separate operations in Mizoram and Tripura. The coordinated efforts led to the arrest of four individuals, including a Myanmar national. In the first operation, conducted during the night of September 2–3 in the Zokhawthar–Champhai sector near the India-Myanmar border, NCB officers teamed up with local police and security units to intercept Myanmar national Lalpanliana, recovering 14.26 kg of methamphetamine worth ₹11.41 crore along with a motorcycle and mobile phones. In the second operation on September 3, acting on targeted intelligence, NCB officials intercepted a Tata Dumper along NH-8 near Bishramganj in Sepahijala district. Following a search of the vehicle in Thakurchara, New Julaibari, officers discovered 8.039 kg of methamphetamine (Yaba/WY tablets) hidden inside a backpack beneath the co-driver’s seat, valued at ₹6.43 crore; three residents of North Tripura—Junab Ahamed, Luthfur Rahman, and Burhan Uddin—were taken into custody. Investigations are actively underway in both cases to uncover financial trails, suppliers, and broader syndicate networks, while the NCB has urged citizens to report illicit drug activities confidentially via the 24×7 toll-free helpline 1933 or the MANAS portal.
