To give wings to the dreams of Meghalaya’s youth and to enhance the state’s representation within the bureaucracy, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma officially launched the ‘CM-INSPIRE’ scheme last Tuesday (April 21, 2026). Under this special initiative, attractive financial incentives have been announced for meritorious students from the state who appear for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations. According to the new guidelines, the State Government will provide direct financial assistance of ₹50,000 to any candidate who clears the UPSC Preliminary examination, followed by an additional ₹100,000 upon successfully clearing the Mains examination. The primary objective behind undertaking this project is to ensure that no deserving candidate is left behind due to the burden of covering the substantial costs associated with coaching, study materials, and travel expenses during their preparation phase. Expressing his concern during his address, the Chief Minister noted that since 2013, no local tribal candidate from Meghalaya has been appointed as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. The ‘CM-INSPIRE’ scheme has been introduced to encourage the youth and to rectify this underrepresentation of the state. The Chief Minister firmly believes that with the right financial backing, the talented students of Meghalaya will be capable of proving their mettle in these highly competitive national-level examinations. Candidates interested in availing the benefits of this scheme are required to apply through the official portal of the ‘Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute’ (MATI). This timely initiative by the government has rekindled a sense of hope among civil service aspirants in Meghalaya, and it is expected to ensure a strong and prominent presence for the state within the country’s administrative framework in the future.
