Manipal Hospital Broadway, part of the Manipal Hospitals Group, marked National Doctors’ Day by expanding its preventive healthcare outreach in Mizoram through a pulmonology awareness session in Aizawl, focusing on the growing incidence of monsoon-related respiratory illnesses and the need for early diagnosis and timely treatment. The initiative comes as seasonal humidity, damp conditions, allergens, viral infections and fungal growth continue to increase the risk of lung diseases during the rainy season.

The session was conducted by Dr. DebrajJash, Head of Pulmonology, Manipal Hospital EM Bypass & Salt Lake Cluster (Broadway + Salt Lake), who highlighted that conditions such as asthma exacerbation, allergic respiratory illnesses, pneumonia, bronchitis, viral infections and fungal infections tend to rise during the monsoon, particularly among patients with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), allergies and weakened immunity. He stressed that maintaining proper ventilation, avoiding damp environments, practising hygiene, wearing masks in crowded places and seeking prompt medical attention for persistent cough, breathlessness or fever can significantly reduce health risks.

Patients who had earlier undergone treatment under Dr. Jash at Manipal Hospital Broadway also shared their recovery experiences. One patient described significant improvement after treatment for pneumonia and a fungal infection, while another reported a better-than-expected recovery from a lower respiratory tract infection following bronchoscopy and follow-up care.

In Aizawl, the awareness programme reflects the increasing emphasis on preventive healthcare and specialised respiratory services in Mizoram. With seasonal respiratory ailments becoming more common during the monsoon, healthcare providers are witnessing greater demand for pulmonology consultations, advanced diagnostic procedures and evidence-based treatment. Industry observers believe such outreach initiatives are likely to improve public awareness while supporting the growth of organised healthcare services in Aizawl and neighbouring districts.
