CK Birla Hospitals, CMRI, in collaboration with the Government of Assam, has strengthened efforts to enhance specialised healthcare infrastructure in Northeast India by organising an exclusive Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on renal transplantation in Guwahati. The initiative reflects the growing investment in medical education and advanced clinical capabilities as demand for complex kidney care continues to rise across the region.

Held at Vivanta Hotel under the theme “Advancing Renal Care through Collaboration, Innovation & Expertise,” the programme brought together nephrologists, urologists, transplant surgeons, physicians and healthcare professionals to discuss emerging innovations and global best practices in kidney transplantation. The scientific sessions began with an introductory address by Dr. Sombrata Roy, Unit Head, CK Birla Hospitals, CMRI, followed by presentations from Dr. ForqanBabuShaikh on robotic renal transplantation and Dr. Aziz MD Atikul Islam on retro nephrectomy and contemporary surgical techniques.

Dr. Roy said continuous medical education and collaboration among clinicians are critical to strengthening transplant care across Assam and the Northeast.

From an economic perspective, investments in specialised training and knowledge-sharing help expand the region’s healthcare capacity, reduce dependence on treatment outside the Northeast and improve access to advanced medical services. With more than five decades of clinical excellence, CK Birla Hospitals, CMRI said the initiative supports long-term healthcare development by enhancing clinical competencies, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and facilitating the adoption of global advances in transplant medicine. The programme concluded with a networking session and dinner to encourage future professional collaboration.
