All India Radio Lunglei today organised a lamp-lighting ceremony to commemorate the broadcaster’s 90th anniversary, with AIR Director and Mizoram Cluster Head DR Lalropuia inaugurating the event.
Addressing the gathering, Pu DR Lalropuia said All India Radio, established on 8 June 1936, had served as one of the main sources of entertainment before India’s independence. He stated that the broadcaster was not only an important source of information but also a vital bridge between the government and the people.
He further noted that radio remained among the most reliable mediums of information and carried a significant responsibility in supporting the nation’s vision of achieving Viksit Bharat 2047.
Pu DR Lalropuia also said that AIR Aizawl and AIR Lunglei were among the most developed stations in the North East region and among the first to adopt the E-Office system. He encouraged staff members to continue striving for excellence and work towards becoming one of the best stations in the country.
He added that public appreciation for radio remained strong and that the broadcaster continued to air programmes in line with global developments.
Head of Programme at AIR Lunglei, Lawmliana Tochhong, highlighted the various initiatives undertaken by the station and said AIR Lunglei was working efficiently to serve the people.
President of the Lunglei District Tennis Association, K. Lalawmpuia, also spoke at the event, describing AIR as one of the most reliable sources of news trusted by the public.
As part of the 90th anniversary celebrations, All India Radio Aizawl has been organising a series of events across Mizoram. Earlier this morning, walkathons were held in Aizawl, Lunglei and Siaha. The main celebration is scheduled to take place at Vanapa Hall on 8 June, with Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma attending as the Chief Guest.
