Nagaland’s draft electoral roll has left out nearly 1.59 lakh voters following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), reducing the state’s electorate from around 13.57 lakh to about 11.99 lakh.
The draft roll was published on September 20 after a statewide enumeration exercise conducted between August 16 and September 14.
According to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, the revision identified 29,944 electors as deceased. Around 1.23 lakh voters were categorised as absent or permanently shifted, while another 5,059 were found to be enrolled at more than one location.
The CEO’s office said the category of absent, shifted and other voters includes those who had enrolled themselves as electors in other states or Union Territories, could not be traced during the enumeration exercise, did not submit their enumeration forms by September 14 or were unwilling to register.
The publication of the draft roll does not make the exclusions final. Voters whose names have been left out can submit claims and objections until October 20 as part of the prescribed revision process.
The notice process and disposal of claims and objections will continue until November 18. After completion of the process, the final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 22
