The Mizoram Assembly will hold its two-day monsoon session from August 25, with the House expected to formally adopt ‘Ro Min Rel Sak Ang Che’ as the state’s official song. The session schedule was finalised by the Business Advisory Committee, chaired by Speaker Lalbiakzama. The state cabinet had approved the song on August 10, giving formal recognition to a composition written by renowned Mizo writer and composer Rokunga in 1947. Meaning “Be Thou Our Counsellor,” the song has long been regarded as Mizoram’s anthem and was declared the Mizo national anthem by the underground Mizo National Front government during the insurgency. The Assembly is also expected to take up several bills during the session. According to the Assembly Secretariat, ministers will respond to 295 starred and 73 unstarred questions submitted by members. Two new bills have also been received for introduction, including the Mizoram Water Information and Governance Bill, 2026. The session is expected to mark an important step in giving official legislative recognition to a song deeply associated with Mizoram’s cultural and historical identity.
