Indian hockey star Lalremsiami was among 17 sportspersons selected for Arjuna Award 2025 for outstanding performance in sports and games.
Lalremsiami is one of India’s most accomplished women’s hockey players. Born in Kolasib, Mizoram, she began playing hockey at a young age after being selected for a local academy. Over the years, her talent and determination helped her rise through the ranks to become a key member of the Indian women’s hockey team. She became the first sportsperson from Mizoram to win an Asian Games medal and later became the first female athlete from the state to represent India at the Olympics. Known affectionately as “Siami” by her teammates, she has represented India in hundreds of international matches and has become an inspiration for young athletes across the country.
The names of the recipients of the Arjuna Awards 2025 was announced today by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The awardees were selected based on the recommendations of the Selection Committee chaired by a former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, Justice (Retd.) Arun Kumar Mishra.
Other prominent names to receive the Arjuna Award for outstanding performance were high jumper Tejaswin Shankar, sprinters Muhammed Ajmal V and Priyanka Goswami, badminton players Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, chess players Vidit Gujrathi and Divya Deshmukh, hockey player Rajkumar Pal, and shooter Akhil Sheoran.
Para-shooter Rudransh Khandelwal and para-athlete Ekta Bhyan were also recognised. Rower Arvind Singh, boxer Narender, kabaddi players Surjeet and Pooja, and deaf shooter Dhanush Srikanth completed the list of 17 Arjuna Award recipients.
