Three persons, including a woman, died after their car skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Mizoram’s Lunglei district. The incident occurred when the victims were returning from Lunglei, according to police. The deceased have been identified as K Lalhlimpuia (25), Jerry Lalnunfela (40), and PC Lalrintluangi (24), all were residents of Hauruang. Jerry Lalnunfela is a constable of the 2nd Battalion of the Mizoram Armed Police (MAP). The vehicle reportedly fell into a steep ravine, killing all three occupants on the spot.
Local sources from Hauruang said Lalnunfela and Lalhlimpuia, who were close friends and neighbours, had left the village in the car. Concern grew among family members after they failed to return home, only for news of the accident to emerge later. Police officials described the site as extremely inaccessible. “The terrain is so difficult that even an excavator which once rolled into the same gorge could not be recovered,” an official said.
