Operation Shiva (2)

According to officials, the Indian Army has begun ‘Operation SHIVA 2025,’ a high-intensity yearly security operation, with the goal of guaranteeing the ongoing and safe execution of the Shri Amarnath Yatra. Given the increased risks from Pakistan-backed proxy groups after Operation Sindoor, this year’s operation takes on additional significance. The operation, which is being carried out in close conjunction with the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Civil Administration, aims to create a strong security framework along the Yatra’s northern and southern routes.

More than 8,500 troops have been deployed as part of the 2025 enhanced security arrangement, supported by a wide range of operational and technological tools. Preventive security deployments, corridor protection plans, and a multi-layered counterterrorism grid have all been implemented. To preserve situational awareness in real time, there are ongoing unmanned aerial vehicle surveillance operations and live monitoring of the sacred cave and the Yatra routes.

The Indian Army is deploying engineer task forces for bridge construction, track widening, and disaster mitigation operations. Medical support includes over 150 doctors, two dressing stations, nine medical aid posts, a 100-bed hospital, and 26 oxygen booths. Dedicated signal companies, engineers, bomb detection squads, emergency rations, tent cities, water points, and essential plant equipment are in place. Advanced surveillance tools are being used to track Yatra convoys between Jammu and the holy Amarnath cave.
