A government employee has been arrested by police for allegedly siphoning off lakhs of rupees by promising jobs in the Assam Legislative Assembly.

Rangia Police on Tuesday arrested the fraudster Dhanjit Talukdar during an operation. It is noteworthy that the arrested Dhanjit is an employee of the Rangia Fire and Emergency Services station.

According to police sources, the operation was carried out by Rangia Police based on an FIR filed by a person named Lakhi Deka, a resident of Ward No. 9 in Nalbari district. As per the complaint, the accused employee had taken seven lakh rupees as a bribe from Deka in exchange for a job in the Assam Legislative Assembly.

However, during police interrogation, the arrested Dhanjit Talukdar made a contrary claim, stating that he did not take the seven lakh rupees as a bribe. According to him, the amount was taken only as a loan with interest.

Currently, Rangia Police have registered a case regarding the incident and an investigation is underway to uncover the true facts of the entire money transaction.
