One more person was arrested in connection with the killing of an Army man in Mizoram’s Kolasib district, taking the total number of people nabbed in the case to nine, a police officer said.
The 31-year-old male accused, a resident of Kawnpui town in the district, was subsequently sent to judicial custody, the officer said.
Zakaria Lalhriattluanga (29), serving in the Assam Regiment and deployed in Jammu and Kashmir, was allegedly beaten to death by a group of youth in Kolasib on September 20 while returning to his native village New Builum.
Earlier, eight people, including two minors, were held in connection with the incident.
Police said Zakaria was received at Lengpui airport near Aizawl by his friend John Laltanpuia, and the two were travelling towards Kolasib in a truck when they were allegedly assaulted near Bualpui village by a group of youths from Kawnpui town, who were returning from a picnic.
