Mizoram’s apex student body, the Mizoram Zirlai Pawl (MZP), adopted eleven key resolutions during its general assembly in Darlawn, Aizawl district, demanding stringent enforcement of the Inner Line Permit system, rigorous protection of state boundaries, and robust legal safeguards regarding marriage and property inheritance. General Secretary Lalhmingsanga Chhangte highlighted that the assembly urged the state government to strictly implement the Mizo Marriage and Inheritance of Property (Amendment) Act, 2026, which bans polygamy, strips Mizo identity from women marrying non-Mizos, improves separated women’s property rights, and prevents descendants of non-Mizo communities from unjustly claiming Scheduled Tribe benefits. To manage migrant influxes, the MZP called for comprehensive verification checks at all entry points, noting that nearly five lakh permits have been issued since 2024, with over 2.15 lakh issued following the inauguration of the Bairabi-Sairang railway line. Furthermore, the organization demanded stringent legislation to investigate and penalize businesses operated by outsiders using Mizo names as fronts. The assembly also resolved to study the potential socio-economic impacts of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project on local residents. Beyond regional security and identity issues, the resolutions addressed critical educational matters, including improved college transport, additional examination centers for national tests like CUET and NEET, integration of Mizo group histories and proper language use in school textbooks, career campaigns, and intensified drug-awareness initiatives. Speaking at the event, Lok Sabha member Richard Vanlalhmangaiha praised educational advancement and encouraged students to explore opportunities nationwide while commending the Zoram People’s Movement government’s student welfare initiatives. MZP-GHQ president C. Lalremruata reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to vigorously pursuing the implementation of all adopted resolutions to safeguard regional interests and student futures.
