Mizoram’s Rural Development and Administration Minister, Lalnilawma, officially inaugurated the District Panchayat Resource Centre (DPRC) at Lawngtlai on Wednesday. The facility is designed to serve as a cornerstone for strengthening Village Councils and improving local governance across the southern district.
Accompanying the Minister was Dr. Lorrain Lalpekliana Chinzah, Adviser to the Chief Minister and MLA for Lawngtlai East, who attended as the guest of honour. During the ceremony, Minister Lalnilawma emphasized that the DPRC is more than just a building; it is a vital support system for Village Council members, particularly those traveling from remote areas. The centre will provide essential accommodation and basic amenities, ensuring that distance is no longer a barrier to effective administration.
Beyond providing lodging, the Minister highlighted the facility’s role as a hub for professional development. The DPRC will host training sessions aimed at enhancing the administrative capabilities of local leaders, empowering them to contribute more effectively to the socio-economic progress of the state. Addressing the gathered stakeholders, Lalnilawma urged the community to maintain the facility with a sense of ownership. He further encouraged Village Councils to prioritize coordination, cleanliness, and waste management within their jurisdictions.
The Minister revealed that the government is exploring plans to construct a dedicated guest house in Aizawl to accommodate Village Council members visiting the capital. He concluded by calling on local leaders to work with renewed dedication for the welfare of their communities, marking a new chapter for rural governance in Mizoram.
