The Mizoram government has stepped up efforts to achieve energy self-sufficiency by expediting the 132 MW Tuivai Hydel Project in Saitual district and advancing the corporatisation of the Power and Electricity (P&E) Department, officials said on Friday.

State Power Minister F. Rodingliana chaired a high-level review meeting to assess follow-up actions arising from recent discussions between Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Chief Minister Lalduhoma during the Union Minister’s visit to Mizoram on May 29. Senior officials from the Finance, Planning, and P&E departments participated in the deliberations.

The meeting focused on key power sector initiatives, including the proposed Tuivai Hydel Project near the Manipur border and the Tuichang Pumped Storage Project, both aimed at strengthening the state’s energy infrastructure. Officials reviewed funding arrangements, implementation strategies, and timelines to ensure timely execution of the projects.

It was noted that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the 132 MW Tuivai Hydel Project has already been completed, and funds will be earmarked to commence construction work. The meeting also resolved to intensify efforts towards corporatisation of the P&E Department to improve operational efficiency and support future expansion of the power sector. The initiatives form part of Mizoram’s broader push towards long-term energy security and self-reliant development.
